As a Grand Tourer (GT) the 635 CSi 2-door made a positive impact when introduced in 1976. A futuristic design and adequate performance provided by the 6-cylinder 3453 cc which offered 215 bhp ensured it ticked all the boxes as a GT.

In 1982 the 3.5-litre engine was changed to 3430 cc while producing the same power output of 215 bhp. The 6-cylinder  engine is the longest-lived engine produced by BMW.
